The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six men posing as pastors for allegedly defrauding residents of Idanre community through fake miracles and spiritual interventions.
Police spokesperson Jimoh Kazeem said the suspects were arrested on February 16, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation by tactical teams in collaboration with Community Safety Officers.
According to the police, the suspects allegedly staged fake miracles and promised divine solutions to financial and health problems in order to gain the trust of victims before defrauding them.
Investigations revealed that the group operated as an organised syndicate with assigned roles to create the impression of a legitimate religious ministry.
The suspects are currently in police custody, while further investigations are ongoing to determine the number of victims and the total amount involved. The police said the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
The command advised residents to be cautious of individuals who exploit religion and false promises of miracles for fraudulent purposes.
