Ogun State Government has stepped up disease surveillance and emergency preparedness measures following the confirmation of an Ebola case in Abuja, with 111 travellers and other persons of interest from high-risk countries currently being monitored.
The state government said it had intensified efforts to prevent the spread of the disease, strengthen early detection and ensure a coordinated response to any suspected case.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, disclosed that no Ebola case had been recorded in Ogun State as of Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
Coker said the government was working through its public health surveillance system to monitor potential risks and ensure that suspected infections, if identified, would be promptly reported and managed.
“The state’s Public Health Emergency Operations Centre is also coordinating preparedness and response activities to ensure the prompt identification, reporting and management of any suspected case,” she said.
The commissioner added that the state had strengthened the capacity of health workers and surveillance personnel to improve readiness and response across communities and healthcare facilities.
According to her, Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers, port health officers, health educators, clinicians and community informants had received training on appropriate response procedures.
She said relevant national guidelines, protocols and resource materials had also been adapted and deployed to guide the state’s response.
Public sensitisation and infection prevention and control measures in healthcare facilities were being intensified as part of efforts to minimise the risk of transmission.
The state government urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with public health authorities while surveillance and preparedness activities continue.
