Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated the commitment of the Lagos State Government to reduce the cost of governance by completing the Multi-Agency Office Complex and the Lagos State Geographical Information System Centre at the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja.
Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Tuesday during an inspection tour of the ongoing construction works at the two facilities, stating that the projects were nearing completion and would soon be delivered for use by government agencies.
According to the governor, the initiative is aimed at reducing the state’s expenditure on rented office spaces and bringing various parastatals closer to the Secretariat for improved coordination and efficiency in service delivery.
“We’ve just finished a very quick inspection of the multi-agency office complex and the EGIS building and, as you can see, the multi-agency complex is practically completed. What remains are finishing touches around the setbacks and landscaping,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress of work by the contractors, noting that the remaining finishing and clean-up would be completed within a few weeks.
Speaking on the LAGIS Centre, the governor described the facility as a unique structure designed to strengthen land administration and spatial data management in the state.
“And of course next to the Multi-Agency Complex is the EGIS building, which is a very unique building because it meets our requirements in inter-spatial and EGIS deliverables, which is meant to be part of our solutions to land administration,” he added.
The governor further disclosed that the projects could be among those expected to be unveiled during a proposed visit by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of Nigeria, to the state.
Sanwo-Olu also stressed that the government was committed to improving the working environment for civil servants while ensuring efficient public service delivery.
“More importantly is the need to advance quality public service to our citizens. The ambiance in which our civil servants work and where citizens receive services is very critical to us as a government,” he said.
The Multi-Agency Office Complex comprises three blocks—A, B and C—situated on a 2.01-hectare site. Block B rises eight floors, while Blocks A and C are five floors each, with penthouses designated for conference facilities.
Other features of the complex include elevators, staircases, reception lobbies, kitchens and canteens, conference rooms, central air-conditioning systems, a generator house, landscaped surroundings and parking spaces for over 700 vehicles.
