Nigerian activist Omoyele Sowore on Wednesday confronted the Minister of Works, David Umahi, at the Federal Capital Territory Police Command over the alleged use of police to settle a personal dispute.
Sowore shared a video of the incident on social media, alleging that a married woman identified as TracyNither Nicolas Ohiri was illegally arrested in Lagos over claims of cyberbullying the minister.
According to him, the woman accused Umahi of owing her about ₦250 million for jobs allegedly executed during his tenure as governor of Ebonyi State more than a decade ago.
The activist argued that the matter should have been handled as a civil dispute, but alleged that the police escalated it into a criminal case by detaining the woman.
Sowore further claimed that after the woman was detained, the police arranged a meeting at the command where Umahi allegedly confronted and intimidated her.
He said the planned interaction was abruptly called off when he and others arrived at the command, after which the minister reportedly left the premises.
In the video, Sowore was seen telling Umahi that the police should not be used to settle personal matters.
