The Niger State Police Command has arrested a suspected killer of a vigilante member who had been on the run since 2024 in Minna, Niger State.
The suspect, identified as Sudais Zakari of Angwan-Roka, Minna, was apprehended alongside Danjuma Idris of Maitumbi during a raid on criminal hideouts in the Maitumbi area on February 7, 2026.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Wasiu Abiodun, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Maitumbi Division in collaboration with vigilante members at about 10:30 pm.
Zakari allegedly fled after killing Ibrahim Yahaya, popularly known as Danladi Baushe, a member of a vigilante group in Maitumbi, in April 2024. Police also linked the suspect to several armed robbery operations carried out in the Maitumbi area in 2025.
During the operation, Danjuma Idris was arrested with suspected burglary tools, including a bolt cutter, machete, screwdriver, pliers, bunch of keys, face cap and a bag believed to be stolen.
In a related operation on February 8, 2026, police operatives attached to Operation Flush intercepted another suspect, Aji Gana, around Maitumbi Roundabout at about 3:00 am. Items recovered from him included a cutlass, pitcher, bunch of keys, pliers, screwdriver and two mobile phones.
The police spokesperson confirmed that all the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation. He added that they would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Niger State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating crime and urged residents to continue providing credible information to support ongoing security efforts in the state.
