The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated Olatunji Disu on his appointment as Acting Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the elevation as well deserved.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor said Disu’s appointment was a recognition of his professionalism, competence and over three decades of service in the Nigeria Police Force.
Sanwo-Olu described the appointment as an honour for Lagos State and expressed confidence in Disu’s ability to succeed in the role, citing his track record of leadership and service across various police commands and formations.
“I congratulate Mr. Olatunji Disu on his appointment as the Acting Inspector-General of Police. His elevation to the position of number one police officer in Nigeria is an honour done to us in Lagos State,” the governor said.
He noted that Disu demonstrated exceptional leadership during his service in different capacities, particularly as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, where the unit became widely known for its crime-fighting operations.
Sanwo-Olu said Disu’s experience at state, national and international levels would help him meet Nigerians’ expectations for a professional, accountable and effective police force.
The governor expressed optimism that the new Acting IGP would use his wealth of experience to strengthen security and improve policing across the country.
