Arsenal have moved level on points with Manchester City at the top of the English Premier League table following a 2-0 victory over Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
The Gunners maintained their perfect home record with a convincing performance, while City’s first defeat of the season against Aston Villa opened the door for Arsenal to draw level with the defending champions.
Arsenal broke the deadlock through Ezri Konsa, who reportedly forced the ball into the net following a corner kick to register his first goal for the champions.
The hosts continued to press for a second goal and eventually secured the victory in the second half when Gabriel Magalhaes rose to head home a cross delivered by Ben White.
The result strengthened Arsenal’s position in the title race, taking their points tally to 21, the same as Manchester City.
Earlier in the day, Manchester City suffered their first league defeat of the campaign, losing 2-1 to Aston Villa at Villa Park.
Nicolas Jackson scored twice for Villa, with Erling Haaland finding the net for City in between the home side’s goals.
Despite the defeat, City remain level with Arsenal on 21 points. However, Enzo Maresca’s side are reported to retain the advantage on goal difference.
The latest results have intensified the competition at the top of the Premier League table, with Arsenal capitalising on City’s setback to strengthen their challenge for the title.
