The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Abeokuta will become a major operational focus of the state police command ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ojajuni gave the assurance on Wednesday during a strategic visit to the INEC office in Abeokuta, where he met with the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Feyijimi Saseyi, to assess security arrangements for electoral personnel, facilities and materials ahead of the polls.
“From now until the end of the 2027 general elections, the INEC office will become our second office,” the police commissioner declared.
He also warned political parties, candidates and their supporters against violence, intimidation and other acts capable of threatening the peaceful conduct of the elections.
Ojajuni said the command would deploy intelligence-led policing, early threat assessment and coordinated security operations to protect electoral officials, voters and election materials throughout the electoral process.
According to him, the measures are designed to strengthen security preparedness, identify potential threats early and prevent incidents capable of disrupting electoral activities.
The police commissioner assured INEC that all security operations would be conducted professionally, impartially and in accordance with the law.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report credible security threats to the nearest police station rather than circulate unverified information that could create panic or heighten tensions.
Ojajuni also recalled that the command had organised a security workshop in Abeokuta involving security agencies and other stakeholders, including INEC, to improve coordination and strengthen preparations for the 2027 elections.
He stressed that sustained collaboration among security agencies, electoral authorities and other stakeholders would be crucial to maintaining law and order before, during and after the polls.
In her response, Saseyi commended the police commissioner for the visit and expressed INEC’s readiness to cooperate with security agencies to ensure peaceful and credible elections in the state.
She reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to transparency and accountability in carrying out its electoral responsibilities.
“On our part, we will also be open, transparent and committed to this assignment so that, at the end of it all, we will achieve free, fair, transparent and credible elections,” she said.
The meeting comes as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, with security agencies and electoral authorities expected to strengthen measures to protect voters, election officials and sensitive electoral materials.
The renewed engagement between the Ogun State Police Command and INEC is aimed at enhancing security coordination and preventing violence as political activities intensify ahead of the elections.
