Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reportedly forwarded a list of commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A source close to the governor disclosed that the submission followed the recent dissolution of the State Executive Council and all special advisers, a move widely interpreted as part of the ongoing reconciliation efforts involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and President Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n

According to the source, the list was submitted to the House of Assembly led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule on Friday. The lawmakers are expected to begin the screening process in the coming days.<\/p>\n

There are also indications that Governor Fubara may appoint a new Chief of Staff as part of the broader reconciliation framework.<\/p>\n

Also, the governor is expected to commission the newly constructed House of Assembly Complex, enabling lawmakers to relocate from their temporary quarters.<\/p>\n

Since the political rift with his predecessor escalated, Fubara had been operating with only eight commissioners, following a Supreme Court judgment that recognised Amaewhule as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.<\/p>\n

Sources further revealed that the new list of commissioner nominees is likely to include loyalists from both Fubara\u2019s camp and that of Wike, a move aimed at fostering lasting peace in the state. Of the eight commissioners who served prior to the cabinet dissolution, only those considered to have performed creditably are expected to be reappointed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe governor has already sent the names of commissioner-nominees to the House of Assembly. It is now for the Speaker to invite them for screening. In the spirit of reconciliation, some names may come from the camp of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Commissioners who performed well may also be reappointed,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from the House of Assembly or the governor\u2019s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi.
