The Federal Government has directed the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to suspend all enforcement actions on the proposed sachet alcohol ban and 200ml PET bottle alcoholic products.<\/p>\n
Factories and warehouses are also to be immediately spared from sealing over the issue.<\/p>\n
The directive, issued in Abuja by Terrence Kuanum, Special Adviser on Public Affairs to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), follows concerns raised by the Office of the National Security Adviser over the security and economic implications of enforcing the ban without a fully implemented National Alcohol Policy.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll actions, decisions, or enforcement measures relating to the ongoing ban on sachet alcohol are to be suspended pending final consultations and policy implementation,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n
The government noted that continued enforcement without coordination could disrupt jobs, supply chains, and informal distribution networks, while potentially triggering security challenges.<\/p>\n
The SGF\u2019s office reaffirmed an earlier December 2025 directive suspending enforcement, referencing concerns from the House of Representatives Committee on Food and Drugs Administration and Control.<\/p>\n
Authorities assured Nigerians and industry stakeholders that a final decision on sachet alcohol will follow inter-agency consultations, taking into account public health, economic stability, and national security.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
