Suspected Boko Haram\/ISWAP terrorists have intercepted four trailers conveying cattle in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State, carting away over 100 cows in a daring afternoon attack.<\/p>\n
Local and security sources confirmed that the incident occurred around 1:25pm near Kareto, shortly after the trucks departed from Damasak en route to Maiduguri. The attackers reportedly operated freely for over an hour, forcing the drivers to offload the cattle before herding them into the bush.<\/p>\n
The attack comes barely two days after insurgents burnt four trucks transporting beans from Monguno to Maiduguri near Garin Kashim in Guzamala LGA, highlighting a renewed wave of assaults on commercial transport routes in northern Borno.<\/p>\n
According to one of the drivers, the four trailers left Damasak at about 30-minute intervals, but the insurgents blocked the road and waited until all the vehicles arrived before striking.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey waited for the other trucks to come before setting our vehicles on fire. Over a hundred cows were taken into the bush. Thank God none of us was killed,\u201d the driver said.<\/p>\n
Another source disclosed that the terrorists held the area for more than one hour, torching the trailers after offloading the cattle. The drivers later made their way to Maiduguri on foot.<\/p>\n
The victims blamed the frequent attacks on the absence of security operatives along the highway, urging authorities to fortify the route as done on the Gwoza axis, where soldiers are stationed to deter insurgent activities.<\/p>\n
The renewed attacks come amid rising insecurity in the region.
