The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has resigned from his position following a petition by members of the commission\u2019s board to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.<\/p>\n
A staff member of the commission disclosed that the presidency directed the chairman to step down after the board submitted a vote of no confidence against him over alleged misconduct and leadership failures.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, he was forced to resign by the presidency following the petition against him. The commission has faced several controversies since his appointment. A replacement will be announced soon,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n
Facthub Africa reports that Usman\u2019s last official engagement was last week when he received Saudi Arabia\u2019s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr Tawfiq Al-Rabiah.<\/p>\n
The petition, dated January 19, 2026, and signed by all 11 board members, accused the former chairman of financial indiscipline, lack of transparency, and approving expenditures and contracts without board consent, allegedly exceeding approved budgetary limits.<\/p>\n
The board also alleged that some Hajj-related contracts were awarded in violation of due process and the Bureau of Public Procurement Act, exposing the commission to legal and reputational risks.<\/p>\n
