The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported a significant rise in the price of cooking gas, with the average cost of refilling a 5kg cylinder increasing to N8,081.75 in October<\/strong>, up from N6,395.82<\/strong> in September.<\/p>\n

According to the latest Cooking Gas Price Watch<\/strong> released on Thursday, the October figure represents a 26.36% month-on-month increase<\/strong>, while year-on-year prices rose by 16.86%<\/strong> from N6,915.69 recorded in October 2024.<\/p>\n

A breakdown of state prices shows Borno<\/strong> with the highest average cost at N8,376.44<\/strong>, followed by Yobe (N8,357.98)<\/strong> and Ondo (N8,340.30)<\/strong>. Bauchi (N7,051.54)<\/strong> recorded the lowest price, with Ebonyi<\/strong> and Akwa Ibom<\/strong> trailing at N7,744.99<\/strong> and N7,806.31<\/strong>, respectively.<\/p>\n

By geopolitical zone, the North-West<\/strong> posted the highest average price at N8,188.55<\/strong>, while the South-South<\/strong> recorded the lowest at N7,956.61<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The NBS also reported that the average cost of refilling a 12.5kg cylinder<\/strong> surged by 15.36%<\/strong> from N16,155.09 in September<\/strong> to N18,636.77 in October<\/strong>. Year-on-year, the price rose 11.37%<\/strong> from N16,734.55.<\/p>\n

Borno again topped the price chart for 12.5kg at N19,391.57<\/strong>, followed by Yobe (N19,339.51)<\/strong> and Ondo (N19,289.65)<\/strong>. Ebonyi<\/strong>, Akwa Ibom<\/strong>, and Anambra<\/strong> recorded the lowest prices.<\/p>\n

The North-East<\/strong> posted the highest zonal average for 12.5kg at N18,953.86<\/strong>, while the South-South<\/strong> recorded the lowest at N18,207.65<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that cooking gas prices spiked from N1,100 per kg to as high as N1,800 per kg<\/strong> following the September industrial action by PENGASSAN at the Dangote Refinery<\/strong>. Ongoing maintenance at the NLNG Train 4<\/strong> facility also contributed to supply disruptions and rising prices, according to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
