The League of Imams and Alfas has appealed to Nigerians to avoid actions capable of disrupting peaceful coexistence, warning against protests linked to rising global tensions.<\/b><\/p>\n
The call was made during the 2026 Ramadan Tafsir programme held at Lagos House on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
The appeal comes amid demonstrations in parts of the country following reports of the killing of Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, during recent US-Israeli strikes.<\/p>\n
Speaking on behalf of the group, the Chief Missioner of the Ansar-ud-Deen Society, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Ahmad, urged Nigerians to use the Ramadan and Lent seasons as periods of reflection and prayer rather than protest.<\/p>\n
He stressed that while global developments may have indirect consequences for Nigeria, citizens should focus on maintaining stability and supporting efforts for peace at both state and national levels.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a time for prayer and sober reflection, not for protests or demonstrations,\u201d he said, cautioning that unrest could worsen existing economic pressures, including potential increases in fuel prices.<\/p>\n
Ahmad noted that past protests in Nigeria have resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property, urging citizens not to allow their grievances to be hijacked by those seeking to cause mayhem.<\/p>\n
He also called on religious leaders across faiths to use their platforms to preach unity and discourage actions that could lead to violence or disorder.<\/p>\n
The cleric maintained that Nigerians should strive to be part of the solution to national challenges rather than contribute to further instability.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
