The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has recounted how he sold a luxury Mercedes limousine during the early days of his ministry and used the proceeds to purchase motorcycles for pastors under his supervision.
Adeboye shared the testimony while speaking at a thanksgiving service of the church, reflecting on how he handled costly gifts at a time when he had little personal comfort.
According to him, the experience began when an elderly woman unexpectedly presented him with a Mercedes Benz while he was still commuting by public transport.
“I was shocked and wondered if the gift might bring trouble,” he said, adding that he initially parked the vehicle and refused to make use of it.
He explained that he later received a divine warning in a dream, rebuking him for rejecting the woman’s act of generosity and denying her the blessing attached to her sacrifice.
Following the warning, Adeboye said he decided to give the car to his late deputy, Pastor Abiodun, despite advice to keep and enjoy it himself.
He noted that the gifts did not stop there, as he subsequently received three additional Mercedes Benz vehicles, which left him uncertain about what to do next.
Adeboye further revealed that matters escalated when a man arrived at his residence in the early hours of the morning with a rare six-door Mercedes limousine, claiming he was instructed by God to deliver it immediately.
He said he prayed for guidance and sought divine permission to dispose of the luxury vehicle, as he felt no personal attachment to it.
“After praying, I sold the limousine and used the money to buy motorcycles for my pastors,” he said, explaining that the decision was driven by the need to support pastoral work and mobility.
The cleric concluded that the experience taught him lessons about obedience, sacrifice and the purpose of material blessings in ministry.
