Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has revealed that her journey in music has transformed her personality, helping her become more open, emotional, and receptive to love.
The 31-year-old said that before becoming a professional artist, she was highly “hyper-independent” and often pushed people away, but her experience in the music industry changed that mindset.
In a recent interview, Tems explained that fame and artistry pushed her to shed habits that once held her back and learn to express herself more freely.
She said she now embraces love and vulnerability without feeling uncomfortable, adding that personal growth has been a major part of her journey as an artist.
Tems began her music career in 2018 with her debut single Mr Rebel after quitting her job, but rose to global prominence in 2020 following her feature on Wizkid’s hit song Essence.
Since then, she has collaborated with international stars including Drake, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, and J. Cole, and has also won two Grammy Awards.
She recently became the first Nigerian artist to surpass 40 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
