No fewer than 150 suspected bandits have reportedly drowned following a boat mishap in Sabon Gida area of Sokoto State.
The source incident occurred after a boat conveying the bandits capsized in the middle of a river.
A counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed this in a post via X.
Makama said the incident occurred on Saturday evening when a boat carrying a large number of armed men, capsized while crossing a river in the area.
According to him, the bandits were travelling in large numbers when the boat suddenly capsized, throwing all occupants into the water.
“Preliminary information suggests that many of them could not swim, leading to heavy casualties,” he said.
Makama added that initial reports indicated that none of the occupants survived the incident.
But there has been no official confirmation from security agencies as of the time of filing this report.
